Join us in downtown Raleigh for a community gathering of prayer, song, and shared witness.
We will gather together to unite as neighbors through a program of prayer, song, sharing, and a way forward. We will leave with a list of actions we can take to express the teachings of our many faiths through love for our immigrant neighbors. Will you join us?
Rain Plan – In case of rain, we will hold the gathering across the street from the Capitol at First Baptist Church at the corner of Hillsborough and Salisbury Streets. Check back here on Saturday for updates.
Bring an open heart and mind, but no signs please. Registration isn’t necessary, but sign up to receive updates about the event.
Together, we will call for the dignity and due process that every person deserves: no more unidentified masked men, no more inappropriate use of force to intimidate, basic human decency for all, and due process too.
We know there are problems with the way our nation deals with immigration and our immigrant neighbors today. We know we can do and be better. That’s the change we seek.
If you too are concerned but get overwhelmed, don’t know what to do or where to start, come stand with us. Sing with us. Listen to what our faiths expect from us all, how what’s happening today is at odds with what we believe, and what needs to change. We believe we can overcome this dark time in America. Is this a protest?
This is not a protest. Rather we proclaim a vision of unity, not division. We will gather as people of faith across many different religions, setting aside our differences and united by what we share: the respect for all, and dignity that all people deserve.
We will join in music and prayer, listen to stories of neighbors affected by current immigration policies and practices, and share ways that we can work together to make our nation a better home for all, including immigrants and refugees. Several partner organizations will have tables set up to provide information and volunteer opportunities.
Where can I park?
On Sundays, parking in downtown Raleigh is free in street spots as well as in several government lots near the Capitol building.
Is this a drop-in kind of event?
We recommend arriving a little before our 2:00 pm start and staying for the full event, because we have planned a full program of songs, prayers, and stories. However, anyone is welcome to drop in for any part of the gathering.
How long is the planned programming?
The program will run from approximately 2:00-3:30 pm. We encourage you to stay for a bit afterwards to visit with our partner organizations and each other.
Do I need to bring a folding chair?
We will have 300 folding chairs set up on the South Lawn of the Capitol. You are welcome to bring your own chair if you prefer.
Will there be restrooms?
First Baptist Church has generously offered their bathrooms for our use. A volunteer will be posted at the Edenton Street door of the church to let you in to use the facilities.
